A pressure plate is a floor-mounted sensor that powers nearby redstone while an entity stands on it, then deactivates shortly after the entity steps off.

Output Power level 15 while pressed Stone plate Detects only players and mobs Wooden plate Detects any entity, including items and arrows Placement On top of a solid block
Bedrock note Weighted pressure plates (gold/iron) output an analog signal scaled to the number of entities on them — useful as a simple counter input.
